The story
$26,500, raised locally
The St. Anne Ladies Auxiliary set out to raise the entire cost of a heliport for the Centre, and did: $26,500, on land leased from the Episcopal Diocese of Antigonish. It opened on May 27, 1998, listed as the second qualified and registered heliport in the Journal of Air Transports. In recognition, the Board of Directors named the heliport in the Auxiliary's honour.
For a community at the end of a causeway, air transport is not a convenience. It is the difference between a long road trip and rapid transfer to a regional or tertiary centre when a patient is unstable.
