Why work here

Care work that stays close to home

St. Anne Centre is small on purpose: 29 long-term care residents, an Urgent Treatment Centre, a laboratory and a Diabetes Education Centre under one roof. Staff know every resident by name, and residents know theirs. For nurses and continuing care assistants used to large facilities, that is the difference people notice first.

Working here also means working in the community you live in — in Arichat and around Isle Madame, staff and families are neighbours, and many employees have been here for decades.

A unionized environment

St. Anne Centre works with two unions — the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) and the Nova Scotia Nurses' Union (NSNU). The facility operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so a range of shifts is available.

Benefits and pension

Employment benefits including a pension are provided through Health Association Nova Scotia (HANS). Staff can also join ‘Ease’, a voluntary program supporting employees with a disability unrelated to work, and are covered under Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) benefits.

Education and community

In-services and workshops are organized or funded by the organization across departments, and the Telehealth link provides on-site in-servicing. Staff are surrounded by a community atmosphere.

We treat residents, families and each other with dignity. That standard applies to how we staff, schedule and support the people who do the work.
Guiding principle — Respect
